Other Uses of a Stubby Holder

Stubby holders are not only one of the most prized possessions of the everyday aussie bloke but they do hold a multi function purpose amongst their owners. To hold a beer is the obvious use, the one it was designed for but what about using them for oven mitts? coin holder or even a dog chew toy. I own quite a few and the amount of hours I have seen used up entertain kids with stubby holders has made my parenting job easier. You need only watch a child with a stubby holder and you will see the ingenuity with which they can put it to use. The stubby often acts a throwing device but also you can stack them and have a game of knock-em-downs. So is the ability to play with them the deciding factor as to why its one of the best innovations? No, its the primary use.

Socialising and drinking are an Australian icon, because of this the humble stubby holder has also become part of this picture. Through creativity we have seen the space on the outside evolve into the mobile billboard, but one not only for a month but the life of the stubby. Alcohol companies first saw this as a way to brand their beer. Not only that but if someone had their logo on someone else's beer, it achieve the role of ambush marketing. This soon turned into the whos who of stubby holders with each beer drinking bloke having a shed full of coolers each man know which was their favourite, which sat pride of place on the shelf.

Pretty soon it was other companies who saw the value and lifeline of the stubby holder. Big business would use them as promotional items to their staff, and new customers, small businesses saw them as a different type of business card, and pretty soon everyone had their logo on a stubbie.

Where was the stubby to go next. With social events being the main drinking location and thus the obvious place for the stubby. Someone soon got the idea to have them personalised for their wedding. This took hold and now 1 in 10 weddings have stubby holders for each guest to help them remember the big day. Witht he lifeline of the cooler being so long, anyone who took a stubbie home would remember your wedding when they slipped a drink into your cooler.

So where to for the stubby holder. Will technology take hold of it? will the stubby get overtaken by another device or idea. Im not sure, the only thing is certain that the stubby has carved itself a piece of Australian history. Even if it does end up in a museum in the future, it will be long remembered for the simplicity of keeping your drink cool.
